Have you ever wondered how God knows your thoughts? It is easy to understand how God can judge our actions. How is it then that Jesus extends the violation of the law to the intent of the heart?
The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly. — Proverbs 20:27 (KJV)
We are told in this verse from Proverbs that man’s spirit is the LORD’s candle. With our spirit, God can see inside us. He can discern the inward thoughts of man. It is your gut, or the inward parts of the belly, that reveals your true feelings or intent. Have you ever had a sinking feeling in your gut? Or, have you felt your belly flip when you are caught doing wrong? God can see it, even when you get good at hiding it from man.
