Why Three Years?

author Posted by: Mike on date Aug 19th, 2017 | filed Filed under: Bible Study

Dry, arid conditions has ruined a planted crop. When I first read 2 Samuel 21:1, I wondered, “Why did David wait three years to enquire of the LORD? Why didn’t he seek the LORD immediately?”

Then there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David enquired of the LORD. And the LORD answered, It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he slew the Gibeonites. – 2 Samuel 21:1 (KJV)

Love Me

author Posted by: Mike on date Jun 21st, 2017 | filed Filed under: Bible Study, God

I love GodThe phrase, “love me” occurs nine times in the Bible.  This first time it occurs is in the account of Jacob and his wives. In this account, Jacob is tricked into marrying Leah when he really loved her younger sister Rachel. The Bible tells us in Genesis 29:30 that Jacob loved Rachel more than Leah. Because of this we read:

And when the LORD saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb: but Rachel was barren. – Genesis 29:31 (KJV)

There is one thing that Leah wanted from her husband, Jacob – that he would love her.

(Genesis 29:32) “And Leah conceived, and bare a son, and she called his name Reuben: for she said, Surely the LORD hath looked upon my affliction; now therefore my husband will love me.”

Have you ever wondered why Solomon answered God as he did when God asked him the following?

In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee.
(1 Kings 3:5)

I think that I now know the root of it.  It is how David, Solomon’s father, taught him. We can see this in some of the last words David had for Solomon. Read more »

The most important daily discipline for a Christian is that they read their Bible. It is also the most important thing to do for someone seeking the truth. If you think about it, the Bible contains the very words of God for man.

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. — II Timothy 4:16-17 (KJV)

When Judgment Comes

God’s judgment will be a fearful thing for all men. In fact, according to Revelation 6:16, men will want the mountains and rocks to fall on them rather than to suffer the wrath of God. Fear will also grip the believer, but their reaction will be much different than evil men. Read more »

The Hope of All Christians

There is one belief that is core to being a Christian and that is belief in the resurrection. Without the resurrection there is no hope for salvation. Without the resurrection the Apostles and our Lord Jesus Christ are all liars, for the resurrection is not only a belief, but it is a fact. The resurrection is a fact that was testified to by over 500 witnesses. These are witnesses who knew it could cost them their lives to testify to this fact.

God is Seeking the Righteous

As Abraham stood with the Lord, looking towards Sodom and Gomorrah, we are given a glimpse into the great mercy of God. In Genesis 18:23-32 we read what was said between Abraham and God. Abraham’s plea went out to God. If only ten righteous be found in these two cities, would God spare them? To this, God replied that he would not destroy them for the sake of ten righteous. What would you tell me 20 years from now if I asked you the following question? What was the major influence in your child’s life, growing up, that guides their life today? You may know it or you may not. You may think you know what it is, but not even be close. I can tell you one thing with certainty! It is either Jesus Christ or antichrist. Read more »

You have probably heard it said that there is no such thing as a dumb question. Or, to put it another way, the only dumb question is one that is not asked. I think that I could add to this by saying that smart questions are questions that are asked with sincere motives. Read more »
