Abandoned ballistic missile bunker in the forest, a legacy of the Cold War

Hiding from God?

I was reading in Revelation, Chapter 6, when God showed me something. It’s my practice to ask God to teach me when I’m reading and studying the Bible. He shows me something almost every day.

(Jeremiah 33:3) “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”

Here is the passage that caught my attention.

(Revelation 6:15-17) “And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; {16} And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: {17} For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?”

Immediately, I saw it. It was a very strong impression. These are the men who have built underground shelters, some like small cities, where they could ride out any disaster. Everything they need to survive is there. They just need to go into the bunker and wait until conditions improve on the surface of the planet. The trouble with this plan is that you cannot hide from God. Judgment will fall on these people as well as the people on the surface. (About the same time I read Revelation Chapter 6, I also read Amos Chapter 9!)

(Amos 9:1-4) “I saw the Lord standing upon the altar: and he said, Smite the lintel of the door, that the posts may shake: and cut them in the head, all of them; and I will slay the last of them with the sword: he that fleeth of them shall not flee away, and he that escapeth of them shall not be delivered. {2} Though they dig into hell, thence shall mine hand take them; though they climb up to heaven, thence will I bring them down: {3} And though they hide themselves in the top of Carmel, I will search and take them out thence; and though they be hid from my sight in the bottom of the sea, thence will I command the serpent, and he shall bite them: {4} And though they go into captivity before their enemies, thence will I command the sword, and it shall slay them: and I will set mine eyes upon them for evil, and not for good.”

Reread Verse 2. You won’t be able to hide from God in the mountains (an underground bunker). Nor will you be able to escape to another planet (Mars). If God passes judgment, there is no escape. The only way you can escape this judgment is if you are in Christ Jesus. Only he can protect you.

(Acts 16:31) “And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.”

In fact, He is your only safety.

(Romans 8:38-39) “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, {39} Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Not a bunker. Not a spaceship. Only Jesus.
