I have just completed reading Goforth of China by Roaslind Goforth. This is the second edition published March, 1938 and it was given to me by one of my children. I have read other books about Jonathan Goforth, but this book has made a deep impression on me.

It is troubling to me that becoming a pastor is more reliant on completing a seminary education than many years of faithfully following God. It seems to me that years of faithful obedience, through times of trial and testing, is a better teacher than years of study. After all, how old was Jesus when he began his public ministry? Every year about this time, people all over the world, including Christians, are making resolutions about living a better life. Most people eventually fail, as old habits win out and they lose their resolve. What do some people have, that they are able to purpose their life for the Lord and live in victory? These people are seen as great men and women of God, unique to the human experience. However, I believe that God desires this kind of life from every believer.
