I started Close to Jesus in 2003 and since then software for running a site like this has made many advances. The old software I used became plagued by spam comments and it didn’t have a facility to prevent or remove these comments. I originally planned to get the new site 100% ready before switching over, but when I started the conversion and saw how many spam comments (and the bad things they said), I knew I had to drop the old site immediately. I will be converting the old articles to this new site over the next several months. Perhaps you will get a chance to read some of the old stuff during that time!

God bless, Mike

Last February, (link) I decided to do what was necessary to reclaim my domain closetojesus.org. My domain had been hijacked by the web hosting company I was using. Thankfully, this dispute, which has gone on for many months, is now over.

Once again, I have control of closetojesus.org. Now anyone can access either closetojesus.org or closetojesus.net to get to this website. I am thankful to God that He has done this. In the process, he has taught me to be more patient.

Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart; wait, I say, on the Lord. — Psalms 27:14 (KJV)

EDIT: closetojesus.net is no longer available.

What happened?

I have been in a long-running dispute over control of my domain, closetojesus.org. It’s a long story and not quite finished, but the long and short of it is that my hosting company hijacked the administration of this domain.

I am in the process of getting it back. My strategy may not have been the right one, but it’s what I decided to do. I let it expire and am now waiting to claim it again (once it passes through the redemption period).

What now?

I purchased another domain, closetojesus.net. I have now put the closetojeus.org content up on the new domain. Once I get closetojesus.org back again, I will move the website content back to that domain and most likely point closetojesus.net to it as well. This may take up to 90 days.

God bless, Mike (February 9, 2005)

Sometime between last night and noon today, the ClosetoJesus.org welcome message was read for the 100th time. While this is not a big number from the perspective of the internet, it does represent a first for this fledgling website. A big thank you to all who have taken time to look and read.

If you happen to be someone who is coming here from time to time, why not register and participate? I have often wondered why no one has yet to leave a comment on anything that I have written. The Lord knows that I am not perfect! I believe it would be a blessing to have some conversations around the articles posted on ClosetoJesus.org.

Now that this small milestone has been reached, I do pray that the Lord will bless this effort to proclaim His word. I also pray that it will be a blessing and a help to those who come this way.

God bless!! Mike

Yes, I think that I can finally call my website crisis over! ClosetoJesus.org was down for an extended time from November 28, 2003 until January 2, 2004.

It all started when my hosting company started having hardware problems with the server that this website resides. The first hardware failure was followed by another hardware failure. Eventually, this site was moved to a new server. That gives me hope that most hardware problems are behind me.

The next problem was getting the site back up and running. First, I had to wait on restores. I learned that I should be doing more on my end to ensure adequate backups that I am in control of. My hosting company was good about restoring my data, but it did take some time. Next, I had to learn a lot more about administering my site. Both from the Xoops standpoint and from the standpoint of basic web administration. It was a good learning experience, but once again, took some time. I can certainly say that the Xoops support forum is extremely valuable.

At any rate, closetoJesus.org is back online. I trust that we can stay there! I will close this message with some wisdom from Proverbs.

Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. Proverbs 3:13 (KJV)

I am a happy man. Yes, for this website being back online. Mostly for my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ!
