But it is good for me to draw near to God… Psalm 73:28a

The Spiritual State of the United States

I heard a top 10 list on the radio this morning.  It was a top 10 list of what Americans are watching on TV.  I got me to thinking about the spiritual state of the United States. Every person loves what they spend time with.  Their heart, left unchecked, will follow after what they desire.

This screenshot shows the most popular TV shows as compiled by TV Guide. Read more »

The Root of Solomon’s Wisdom

Have you ever wondered why Solomon answered God as he did when God asked him the following?

In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee.
(1 Kings 3:5)

I think that I now know the root of it.  It is how David, Solomon’s father, taught him. We can see this in some of the last words David had for Solomon. Read more »

Growing Up on Bad Spiritual Food

I was reading Pilgrim’s Progress today and a thought came to me. I was saved through reading a Revised Standard Version (RSV) Bible that was given to me at confirmation when I was 14 years old. The words of Jesus spoke truth to me. I have come to know that the RSV is not a reliable Bible version. So what, or who, was it that spoke truth to me?

No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.  – John 6:44 (KJV)

Something to think about:
Do you want to live …
in a chamber  (Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death.  Proverbs 7:27)
- or -
in a mansion (In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you . John 14:2)?

How to Read Your Bible

The most important daily discipline for a Christian is that they read their Bible. It is also the most important thing to do for someone seeking the truth. If you think about it, the Bible contains the very words of God for man.

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. — II Timothy 4:16-17 (KJV)

Keep Praying

I read the following, written by John Harder, in a newsletter from Evangelical Tract Distributors.

Most Christians have heard of George Muller and his adventures of faith.  But faith has a co-worker, and that is prayer.  At the age of thirty-eight, he began to pray persistently for the salvation of five individuals.  Every day, come rain or shine, he pleaded for their salvation. Read more »

Who comes against Jerusalem?

The following warning goes out to the nations in the end times. It is a prophesy of their destruction.  Over what? Jerusalem!

And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. — Zechariah 12:9 (KJV) Read more »

Be An Ensample

Paul tells the church at Thessalonica that they were ensamples. Now this is a word that is not used much today, but it means: An example; a pattern or model for imitation.

So that ye were ensamples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia. — 1 Thessalonians 1:7 (KJV) Read more »
